Blind harrowing/pre-emergence harrowing

Efficient weed control. With harrowing directly after sowing.

The use of the harrow in pre-emergence is an effective measure against weeds in the cotyledon and cotyledon stage. And this already before the crop emerges. This method allows for particularly early regulation of weeds and yield protection, especially when the crop is very slow to emerge. The TREFFLER precision tine harrow has significantly increased the application possibilities and efficiency, thanks to its constant tine pressure from 100g in every tine position.

How to regulate weeds already in the pre-emergence stage

Requirements for blind harrowing

The basis for successful "blind harrowing" is a uniform seed placement depth. Therefore, the placement depth of the seed must be regularly checked and ensured during sowing. If the placement depth varies, the tine pressure cannot be optimally adjusted so that the seeds can be harrowed out. Ideally, the seed is pressed down with a pressure roller.

Timing & setting of the harrow

When harrowing must be guided by the size of the weeds - the weeds must be in the cotyledon or cotyledon stage. At the same time, the tines must not work too deep - the adjustment is made by adjusting the tine pressure. In addition, it is necessary to check and ensure that the seedlings of the plant are not damaged. To do this, reduce the travel speed if necessary. This should generally be set low - between 2 and 5 km/h, depending on the crop and placement depth. In most cases, the operation should not be carried out too close to emergence in order to protect the seedlings.

Crops (blind)harrowing

  • Cereals should be sown slightly deeper and can then be harrowed carefully
  • Sunflowers, corn, soybeans, peas and field beans can be harrowed and weeds regulated at the cotyledon or cotyledon stage when placement depths are at least 4 inches.
  • Pumpkin and sugar beet are usually shallowly laid. A slightly deeper placement of at least 3cm should be selected for seed in order to carefully harrow successfully in pre-emergence.
  • Potatoes can be harrowed in pre-emergence without any problems
Maintain working depth automatically

Automatic working depth regulation

Especially when using the harrow in pre-emergence, it is important to maintain the working depth of the tines to protect the crop.

The optionally available and patented Automatic Working Depth Control from TREFFLER uses sensors to measure the ACTUAL working depth and compares this with the TARGET working depth. If necessary, the tine pressure is adjusted so that the SET and ACTUAL values are identical - the working depth is maintained completely automatically.
